Well, what can I say? This was a weird script.
I recorded two versions. Do these count as ASMR? Hypno? I have no idea. I may also do a more normal rendition at some point.
They were both recorded with two mics at the same time, connected to a Zoom H5 recorder: a Rode NT1-A cardioid condenser microphone over XLR, and an SSH-6 mid/side shotgun condenser attached directly to the recorder. I threw away the shotgun’s side channel. The NT1-A is panned left; the shotgun, panned right. I was surprised how similar they sounded to each other given how affordable the shotgun attachment is.
The H5 records WAVs at 24 bits, 48 kHz. My final FLACs are kept 24-bit.
Ⓐ Trochaic chant
Recited mostly in a heavy pattern of trochaic trimeter (i.e. like THIS word, THIS word, THIS word!) that I felt reminiscent of the chanting of epic poetry in Greek and Latin.
Lots of additions of pauses in post to manipulate the rhythm. The pitch and tempo were subtly shifted by changing the sample rate from 48 kHz to 48.5 kHz. I EQed the track from the shotgun but left the Rode raw.
I overall intended it to sound unnerving.
Ⓑ Whisper (with rumble)
Or whisper (without any effects)
Whispered very quietly and creepily, with the disturbing background rumble of the might of the earth. Otherwise virtually unedited. The sub-version without any deliberate background actually has a lot of natural background grey noise because I whispered incredibly quietly and had to turn the gain up high then boost in post-production too.
