Voice actress’s remarks
Summary
In this one, the girl tells an anecdote about herself and a guy. When she’s relating what he said, she whimsically ‘does his voice’. So, it’s not me as a VA seriously playing a part that’s supposed to actually be male or American, but what this girl would sound like, telling a story that involves her friend. This story is all about clinging onto youth for dear life.
Trials, tribulations and dilemmas
I recorded this long audio four times because things kept going wrong, but I’ve finally completed it and I think it’s OK!
I thought about changing the setting away from the US, but there was too much Americana (lemonade stands, petty HOAs…) to be able to just tweak a word here and there, and I like to preserve scripts as-is apart from errors and quirks of vocab/grammar that would be incongruous with my accent. So, our manic pixie tomboy is an Aussie transplant to the US of A. (Not that I consistently sound like I’m from anywhere in particular, after living in five countries so far.)
Possible future versions
In a previous narrative audio where the speaker relates a few lines from her partner, I obtained a cameo performance from a male VA and edited it in so as to create an alt version. If you are interested in contributing this, do it and send it to me! He should sound calm and masculine.

Technical details
Recorded on my Sontronics Solo supercardioid dynamic handheld microphone (in shock mount) with sE DM2 T.N.T. inline mic preamp, into my Zoom H5 handy recorder (24-bit, 48kHz). Some additional voice from my Zoom SSH-6 shotgun condenser (mid only, side discarded), mixed into the left channel. Voice tracks have sample rate slightly boosted to raise tempo and pitch. Nature sounds panned right a little. Uploaded as 24-bit 44.1kHz stereo FLAC.
Alternative version
Summer Days (mono, no fx)
